College of life
The school of life science and technology was founded by Beijing University of science and technology in 2002 and renamed as the school of life in 2008. The college has biology department and biomedical engineering department with talent training as the core, space biology and Medical Engineering Research Institute with scientific research as the core, and biological experiment teaching center with cultivating students' innovation and practice ability as the core. The College strives to build the college culture with "health, happiness, unity and development" as the core, and puts forward the development strategy of "gathering talents to condense disciplines and promote development, and being passionate and enterprising to enhance the college culture".

The college has more than 100 faculty members, including 81 full-time teachers. More than 97% of full-time teachers have doctoral degree, and more than 70% have long-term study and work experience abroad. One academician is double employed by the Chinese Academy of Sciences, one professor is specially employed by Yangtze River scholars of the Ministry of education, one national candidate for the "one million talents project in the new century" and six excellent talents in the new century of the Ministry of education. Faculty members have published many papers in nature, science, cell, Nature Biotechnology, ADV material, PNAs and other top international journals.

Discipline construction
Life science is the most cutting-edge, active, strategic and promising field in the 21st century. The integration with medical and health fields has become a major demand of the country and society, with rapid development. The college has formed a relatively complete discipline system of life sciences, with two first-class discipline doctoral programs of Biomedical Engineering and biology, and two second-class discipline doctoral programs of medical engineering. Biochemistry and molecular biology, space biology and medical engineering are two key national defense disciplines, which integrate medical engineering with a key discipline of the Ministry of industry and information technology. Related disciplines of the college enter the medical engineering integration discipline group of "double first-class" construction of the school.

There are two majors in undergraduate enrollment: biotechnology and biomedical engineering. During the period of study, the college signed cooperation agreements on exchange students, visiting scholars and scientific research with several foreign universities, such as the University of British Columbia (UBC), Saskatchewan (Saskatchewan), University of Bologna (Italy) and Okayama University (Japan). The proportion of international exchange among undergraduates is nearly 40%.

In the past 15 years, biotechnology and biomedical engineering have been the best employment and highest salary fields in the United States. In recent years, the college graduates' enrollment rate is nearly 60%, and the employment rate remains above 99%. Students majoring in biotechnology have basic knowledge and innovative practical ability in scientific research, new technology and new product research and development in the field of life science and biotechnology. Biomedical engineering industry continues to expand, including the development of intelligent medicine, medical big data, wearable medical equipment and other emerging fields, bringing broad career space. Graduates of biomedical engineering major have basic knowledge and innovative practical ability in scientific research, new technology and new product development in biomedical field, and can be engaged in biomedical signal detection and information processing, image information processing and analysis, development of software or hardware related to medical engineering, development and maintenance of medical instruments, medical big data, etc.
Most of the graduates of life college go to Oxford University, Duke University, Tsinghua University, Peking University, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Shanghai Jiaotong University, Beijing University of science and technology and other well-known domestic and foreign universities and scientific research institutions for further study. A small number of students choose well-known domestic and foreign enterprises, civil servants, teachers and other positions for employment.

Scientific research platform and achievements of the College
Biomedical engineering major was selected into the "excellent engineer program of the Ministry of education", and biotechnology major and Institute of biophysics of Chinese Academy of Sciences jointly established the "beishizhang elite class". We have set up an experimental class of integration of medical workers. Teachers of the college have undertaken a number of national and provincial key scientific research projects, including national key R & D plan, National Natural Science Foundation key fund projects and special instruments, national defense pre research and civil aerospace.
In recent years, the average annual scientific research fund of the college has exceeded 50 million yuan, and the number of NSFC approved has increased steadily. In terms of the construction of scientific research platform, there is one Beijing Key Laboratory of "separation and analysis of biomedicine", two key laboratories of MIIT, namely, "integration of medical system and health engineering" and "molecular medicine and biological diagnosis and treatment". Ecological scientific research team
In 2004, with the support and help of all departments of Beijing University of science and technology, the ecological science examination is a student social practice activity with the purpose of "exploring the nature, serving the society, feeling the culture, and nurturing innovation", which was built by the life college of Beijing University of science and technology. International Genetically Engineered Machine Competition
International genetic engineering machine competition team
International genetic engineering machine competition (iGEM) was founded by MIT in 2003 and developed into an international academic competition, which is the highest international academic competition in the field of synthetic biology. The iGEM team of students of life college has participated in the competition for 7 consecutive years and obtained the achievement of hardware eryin.
In 2018, the bit team participated in the project "Jacob 2.0: just a creative aid for detection of biomarkers", which combined with nucleic acid aptamers, microbial probes and microarray chips to build a mature and independent detection platform for biomarkers in serum.
In 2019, the bit team participated in the project of "microbial sensor coupled with microfluidic chip and smartphone detects aggressive damage effect". Aiming at the problem of DNA damage detection, the experiment design and the development of detection equipment were carried out.
