Why do many composite materials rely on silane coupling agents?

Hits: 100 img

A common problem in composite materials is the poor adhesion between organic resins and inorganic fillers. This not only affects strength but also leads to performance degradation in humid environments.

IOTA-570, 3-(methacryloyloxy)propyltrimethoxysilane, is a key material for solving this problem. One end of its molecule can react with inorganic materials (such as glass fiber and silica), while the other end participates in the polymerization of resins (such as polyester and ABS), thus forming a "molecular bridge" between them.

The benefits of this structure are very direct: Improved mechanical strength (superior tensile and flexural properties); enhanced water resistance and reduced performance degradation; optimized electrical properties, especially suitable for cable materials.

Therefore, in glass fiber reinforced plastics and filled polymers, IOTA-570 is not only a performance enhancer but also an important means of cost reduction—because it makes fillers "more valuable."
