3-Glycidyl etheroxypropyltrimethoxysilane, trade name IOTA-5560, CAS number 2530-83-8, is a widely used epoxy silane coupling agent with the molecular formula C₉H₂₀O₅Si and a molecular weight of 236.34. It is a colorless, transparent liquid at room temperature, with stable physicochemical properties, a refractive index of 1.428-1.43, a density of 1.07, a flash point of 122℃, and a boiling point of 120℃ (2 mmHg).
This product has excellent solubility, soluble in water, alcohols, acetone, and most aliphatic ester solvents. It undergoes hydrolysis upon contact with water, releasing methanol. It exhibits strong chemical reactivity, readily hydrolyzing and condensing, and can self-polymerize to form polysiloxane structures. However, it readily polymerizes under high temperature, strong light, or in the presence of peroxides; therefore, storage and use should avoid high temperatures and strong oxidizing environments.
Thanks to its unique molecular structure, the product contains both trimethoxysilyl and epoxy functional groups, enabling it to bridge organic polymers and inorganic materials. With its stable physicochemical properties and reactivity, it has become a commonly used chemical additive in the fields of adhesives, composite materials, and inorganic filler modification, exhibiting strong industrial adaptability and a wide range of applications.
