Silicone product categories and their applications①

Hits: 577 img

Silicone is a general term for silicon-containing organic compounds, with a wide variety of products and a wide range of applications. Organosilicon compounds refer to compounds containing silicon-carbon bonds (Si-C) in the molecule, and at least one organic group is directly connected to the silicon atom, usually also including those through oxygen, sulfur, nitrogen, etc. Indirectly connected compounds, polysiloxanes composed of silicon-oxygen bonds (-Si-O-Si-) as the main chain are the most widely used, accounting for more than 90% of the total amount of silicone products.

Silicone materials are mainly divided into four categories: silicone rubber, silicone oil, silicone resin and functional silane. The details of each category are as follows:

(1) Silicone rubber
Among all rubber varieties, silicone rubber has the widest working temperature range (-100~350°C), and has excellent high and low temperature resistance. According to its vulcanization temperature, it can be divided into room temperature vulcanization and thermal vulcanization. The former are mainly used in: sealants, adhesives, conformal coatings, gaskets, foam rubber, molded parts, packaging materials, electrical insulation, glazing, medical implants, surgical aids, molding materials, etc.; the latter Mainly used in: pipes and hoses, strips, wire and cable insulation materials, surgical aids, flame retardant rubber parts, penetrating sealing materials, molded parts, embossed rollers, automotive ignition cables and spark plug covers, extrusion Components, medical implants, laminates, conductive rubber, fiber coatings, foam rubber, etc.

(2) Silicone oil
Silicone oil is a colorless (or light yellow), odorless, non-toxic, non-volatile liquid with excellent heat resistance, electrical insulation, weather resistance, hydrophobicity, physiological inertness and small surface tension, and is often used as advanced lubrication Oil, anti-vibration oil, insulating oil, hydraulic oil, heat transfer oil, vacuum diffusion pump oil, defoamer, mold release agent, hydrophobic agent, paint additive, polishing agent, release agent and daily necessities additive, surfactant, particle And fiber treatment agent, silicone grease, flocculant, etc.

(3) Silicone resin
Silicone resin is a thermosetting plastic. One of its most outstanding properties is its excellent thermal oxidation stability. After being heated at a high temperature of 250°C for 24 hours, it only loses 2 to 8% of its weight; another outstanding property is its excellent electrical properties. Insulation performance, can maintain its good insulation performance at room temperature, mainly used in the production of high temperature coatings, packaging materials, joint coatings, varnishes, insulating paints, pressure sensitive adhesives, laminating resins, release agents, adhesives, masonry Water repellent, etc.
