Key Trends in the Silicone Coating Release Film Industry

Hits: 564 img

The COVID-19 outbreak has made 2020 a difficult year, but the good news is that the strong global growth in the release liner industry is good news for all concerned, from chemical suppliers to release liner manufacturers. The situation is especially challenging for businesses that rely on paper or silicone. The shortage of paper and silicones poses a particular challenge to the release liner industry as it relies heavily on paper and silicones. Market shortages have left paper and silicone suppliers struggling to meet demand, while market prices have soared. In fact, in the silicone market, many interested parties are considering alternative materials in 2020 and now 2021 due to rising prices and volatile supply. The supply and demand situation of release film does not seem to be greatly affected.
APAC (Asia Pacific) has the fastest growth and the largest market share. Among them, China has the largest share of the release film market with a strong record of being the world leader in silicone production. Other regions, such as the US, followed by Europe, are showing signs of strong market growth.

The development direction of the release film industry:
The release liner industry is turning to thinner materials (and coatings) and higher production efficiencies to reduce costs.
Whether it is used for beverage bottles or a large number of medical applications, labels occupy the largest market share of release films and are far ahead. High demand in the medical sector is driving the market to produce labels that are thinner and easier to handle. This means that people are starting to use film-based synthetic materials instead of the only substrate on the market - paper. Instead of relying on typical paper production methods, these release liners are made from polypropylene, polyester and polyethylene, and can therefore be much thinner than traditional product types. Why are these materials becoming more and more popular? Because these thin-film composites can be reduced in thickness by up to 60%, they have a significant impact on the environment and business. In addition to generating less waste and producing more efficiently, they are also lighter and more efficient to store and transport, meaning substantial savings at all stages of use.
However, the market cannot sustainably push the release liner to become thinner. If it's too thin, it won't work. Paper-based release liners have proven their worth over the years, so they won't be replaced overnight. It remains a vital and indispensable product in certain key areas such as pressure-sensitive labels.
Traditional release liners are changing to meet a variety of needs, while traditional paper and silicone release liners will not be available everywhere, and as environmental concerns become more important, especially in China, synthetic plastic Membranes have become an emerging force and may play an even more important role in the future.
The Hitachi LAB-X5000 energy dispersive X-ray fluorescence (EDXRF) spectrometer makes gravimetric analysis of silicone coatings easier. This rugged, compact analyzer provides reliable and repeatable results in laboratory or production environments. Built-in atmospheric compensation allows operators to perform analyses without the need for helium, minimizing the cost per analysis. The analysis method parameters have been optimized by the application engineer to facilitate fast and easy analysis of cellophane and clay-coated papers.
The new LAB-X5000 can be used as part of a user's quality assurance program, allowing users to ensure that products meet specifications 24 hours a day at low production costs. Hitachi has conducted research on various application fields and specializes in providing XRF analysis solutions for release films.
