Cyclopolydimethylsiloxane has many USES, such as conditioner, solvent, humectant, carrier and viscosity control agent. Like other silicone oils, this ingredient has unique fluidity and is easy to push away. When applied to the skin and hair, it gives the skin and hair a silky touch, and forms a waterproof protective film on the skin surface. It can fill in fine lines/wrinkles, giving the face a temporarily firmer, fuller look.

It is often used as a carrier for other ingredients in products because its molecules are too large to penetrate the skin completely and have no real moisturizing properties. Its greatest use is to deliver nutrients quickly to the skin and hair, and it evaporates easily into the air. It can also be used as basic solvent of essence and flavor oil and antistatic agent. It is most commonly used in conditioner because it gives hair a silky feel and reduces greasy residue. We can find it in many cosmetics, such as facial moisturizer/cream, foundation, shampoo/conditioner, body spray, sunscreen, anti-aging essence, antiperspicant/deodorant, concealer, hair dye and eye cream.

Although organosilicon such as cyclopolydimethylsiloxane has no adverse side effects on humans, many people are concerned that it is harmful to the environment (for example, to Marine life). Therefore, many countries, such as Canada, require the silicone industry to provide more data and scientific data to prove its safety. It is worth mentioning that organosilicon can stick to the sebum, dirt and bacteria on the epidermis, so it may cause allergic reactions and acne explosion.
