The application of silicone rubber is already very extensive, but there may be some people who are not familiar with the understanding and distinction between silicone rubber and silicone gel, and their names are not fixed. Today, the editor will provide a detailed introduction to the differences and classifications between silicone and silicone rubber. At present, the concept of "silicone" is not standardized, as there is no clear national definition yet. When we hear the word 'silicone', we must understand whether it is silicon dioxide or synthetic rubber containing silicon, or ultimately whether it is inorganic silicone or organic silicone.
There are several related terms for the term "silicone": silicone rubber, silicone rubber, silicone rubber, and silicone rubber. The relationship between silicone rubber and silicone gel, silicone gel is different and includes silicone rubber, which is the organic "silicone gel" in "silicone gel". "Silicone" is a term used by Hong Kong and Taiwan. In Chinese Mainland, it is called "silica gel". Silicone and Silikon are transliterations of English silicone. We usually say that it means "silica gel".
In summary, silica gel can be divided into two categories based on its properties and components: organic silica gel and inorganic silica gel.
Let's talk about silicone rubber first
1、 Performance and technical parameters of silicone rubber
Silicone rubber is the largest and most widely used category of organic silicon products. After vulcanization, silicone rubber has excellent characteristics such as high and low temperature resistance, weather resistance, hydrophobicity, electrical insulation, and physiological inertness.
The main properties and applications of silicone rubber products: Silicone rubber can be divided into two categories based on its vulcanization temperature: high-temperature (heating) vulcanization type and room temperature vulcanization type. High temperature rubber is mainly used to manufacture various silicone rubber products, while room temperature rubber is mainly used as an adhesive, sealing material, or mold.
Hot vulcanized silicone rubber (HTV)
Hot vulcanized silicone rubber (HTV) is the most important type of silicone product, and methyl vinyl silicone rubber (VMQ) is the most important variety of HTV, commonly known as high-temperature rubber. Methyl vinyl silicone rubber (raw rubber) is a colorless, odorless, non-toxic, and mechanically impurity free gel. Raw rubber is mixed with appropriate reinforcing agents, structural control agents, vulcanizing agents, and other additives as needed, and then heated and molded or extruded into various products through secondary vulcanization. Its products have excellent electrical insulation, strong resistance to arc, corona, and electric spark, good waterproof, moisture-proof, impact resistant, and earthquake resistant properties, as well as physiological inertia and breathability. Mainly used in aviation, instrumentation, electronics, navigation, metallurgy, machinery, automotive, medical and health sectors, it can be used as various shapes of sealing rings, gaskets, pipes, cables, as well as human organs, blood vessels, breathable membranes, rubber molds, precision casting release agents, etc.
