Exploring the Enhanced Functionality of DAMO in Mineral Fiber Insulation and Abrasives

Hits: 130 img

Recent news reports indicate that adding DAMO as an additive to binder systems (such as phenolic resins or silicone glues) in mineral fiber insulation materials (such as mineral wool blankets and rock wool products) significantly improves the bond strength between the fiber and the binder. The organic amino groups in the silane molecules chemically bond with the inorganic fiber surface, improving resistance to vibration and thermal cycling while also preventing abrasive dust from shedding during processing.

In the abrasives industry, DAMO is used to modify ceramic sand or mineral fillers, enhancing their compatibility with the resin matrix and increasing the hardness and crack resistance of the final product. This is particularly valuable in the production of high-end abrasive tools, grinding wheels, and abrasive media. Furthermore, the silane can improve the surface bonding quality of sand casting molds, reduce mold release issues, and enhance the surface finish of castings.

The industry is also exploring the compatibility of DAMO with low-VOC, environmentally friendly formulations to meet new environmental regulations. DAMO shows promising potential, particularly given the trend toward reducing volatile organic compound emissions in the mineral wool and abrasive tool industries.
