Polyurethane adhesive performance upgrade – isocyanate-functionalized silanes enable bonding of multiple materials

Hits: 67 img

In the fields of automotive lightweighting, electronic assembly, and building curtain walls, polyurethane adhesives are highly favored for their excellent toughness and weather resistance. However, there is still room for improvement in their bonding strength to inorganic substrates such as metals and glass. Anhui Aiyota's isocyanate-functionalized silane coupling agent provides an innovative solution for breakthroughs in polyurethane adhesive performance.

This product molecule contains both highly reactive isocyanate groups and hydrolyzable alkoxysilane groups. The isocyanate groups react with the hydroxyl and amino groups in the polyurethane prepolymer to achieve chemical bonding. After hydrolysis, the alkoxysilane groups form Si-O-M chemical bonds (M being a metal or silicon atom) with the surface of the inorganic substrate. Experiments show that adding 1-2% of this coupling agent increases the shear strength of polyurethane adhesives against aluminum alloys, stainless steel, and glass by 40-60%, and the strength retention rate after damp heat aging increases from 50% to 80%.

Aiyota's isocyanate-functionalized silane uses a special stabilization technology, achieving room temperature storage stability for over 6 months and resisting gelation after opening. Our products are suitable for various adhesive systems, including single-component moisture-curing polyurethane, two-component polyurethane, and polyurethane-modified silane (MS). The company is ISO9001 certified and offers 25kg and 200kg packaging options. Our technical team can provide customers with formulation design, curing mechanism analysis, and application problem solutions.
