Wind turbine blade manufacturing – Silane-modified epoxy resin enhances blade durability

Hits: 84 img

With the increasing size of wind turbines, blade lengths have exceeded 100 meters, placing higher demands on the mechanical properties and fatigue resistance of composite resin matrices. Anhui Aiyota has developed an epoxy-based silane modifier, providing a performance enhancement solution for the epoxy resin system of wind turbine blades.

The silane modifier can copolymerize with epoxy resin to form flexible segments, reducing internal stress in the resin and improving the interfacial bonding between glass fiber and resin. Tests show that adding 1-3% silane modifier increases the interlaminar shear strength of the blade composite material by 25%, extends fatigue life by 40%, and improves strength retention rate after exposure to humid and hot environments by 20%, effectively reducing the risk of blade cracking and delamination.
