The Role of MOS Silane in One-Component RTV Silicone Rubber
One-component room temperature vulcanizing silicone rubber (RTV-1) is widely used in sealing, bonding, electrical insulation and industrial assembly. Unlike two-component silicone systems, RTV-1 products are usually supplied in ready-to-use cartridges or containers and cure when exposed to atmospheric moisture.
A typical RTV-1 formulation contains silanol-terminated silicone polymers, crosslinkers, fillers, catalysts and other additives. Among these ingredients, the crosslinker is essential for building the final elastomer network.
Methyltris(methylethylketoxime)silane, CAS No. 22984-54-9, is commonly used as an oxime-functional crosslinker in moisture-curing silicone rubber.
During formulation, its reactive groups participate in reactions with silanol-containing silicone polymers. After application, atmospheric moisture triggers hydrolysis and subsequent condensation reactions, gradually forming a crosslinked silicone structure.
The curing process generally begins at the exposed surface and progresses toward the interior. Therefore, the formulation, application thickness, ambient humidity and temperature can all influence the curing speed and depth.
For manufacturers, choosing a suitable crosslinker helps optimize processing characteristics and the final physical properties of RTV silicone rubber.
IOTA 5310 provides a purity of at least 95% and is suitable for use as a crosslinking agent in RTV silicone rubber formulations. It is available in 25 kg and 200 kg packaging options.
Before commercial production, manufacturers should evaluate crosslinker dosage, catalyst compatibility, skin-over time, through-cure behavior and mechanical properties.
