What Should Manufacturers Consider When Selecting an Oxime Crosslinker?
Industrial silicone sealants are used in many applications, including equipment assembly, electrical components, automotive parts and general industrial bonding.
Different applications require different combinations of curing speed, adhesion, flexibility and mechanical strength. Therefore, selecting the appropriate crosslinker is an important step in silicone sealant formulation.
Methyltris(methylethylketoxime)silane (MOS) is an established crosslinking agent for moisture-curing RTV silicone systems.
When reacting with moisture, its oxime-functional groups undergo hydrolysis and condensation reactions, helping build the silicone polymer network. This process contributes to the development of the final elastomer structure.
Several factors should be evaluated when selecting MOS silane:
1. Purity and product consistency
The purity and quality of the crosslinker can influence formulation consistency and manufacturing stability.
2. Curing performance
Skin-over time, through-cure speed and curing behavior should be tested under actual application conditions.
3. Compatibility
The crosslinker should be evaluated alongside the base polymer, catalyst, fillers and other formulation additives.
4. Adhesion and mechanical properties
Different substrates and applications may require different crosslinker combinations and formulation adjustments.
